Inter Milan coach Conte: We can be positive about Shakhtar draw

Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte tried to be upbeat after their 0-0 draw with Champions League opponents Shakhtar Donetsk.

Conte is adamant they can be happy with the point.

“I think there are positive aspects about this game," Conte told Sky Sport after Inter's 0-0 away draw against Shakhtar in Champions League.

“We played with the right intensity, with the right commitment, as a big team. We dominated and we were not lucky. We had some chances to score, we played a very good game in both phases.

“Don't forget Shakhtar have important technical qualities, we are sorry because we would deserve to win the game. We are on the right way, the mentality is a good one."

Conte insists they're continuing to improve.

“We've been together for a year, the guys have acquired knowledge and have gained self-confidence. We press in every part of the pitch, trying to take the ball from our opponents.

“In other circumstances one would sit back and wait for the counter to score. Today the opposite thing happened and that's a change. The same happened against Borussia, a game with high intensity.

“Under this point of view I can't be unsatisfied, we didn't concede anything, it's the second game in a row we don't allow a goal. At the same time, we are sorry because we had some goal chances and you have to win these games.

“I really can't blame my players," Conte continued.

“Don't forget this was the fourth game in ten days. I am not looking for excuses but we begun this cycle of matches with six people who had caught Covid, plus the injured ones, which means we had to do without eight players.

“This game is a proof of the good work we are doing, also with the technical staff."
