Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez may need surgery at Inter Milan.
He has been undergoing testing on the ankle injury he sustained playing for Chile against Colombia earlier this week.
A statement released by his club Internazionale has confirmed Sanchez suffered a joint dislocation in his left ankle after medical tests were carried out.
He will fly to Barcelona this week to determine whether he will go under the knife.
An Inter statement, released on Tuesday afternoon, said: "Alexis Sanchez underwent medical tests earlier this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. Results revealed a joint dislocation in his left ankle which has caused damage to the peroneus longus tendon.
"The player will meet for further consultations with Professor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona on Wednesday, where they will seek to reach a decision on whether surgical intervention is necessary."
