INSIDER: Why Bayer Leverkusen holding back Havertz from moving to Chelsea

Bayer Leverkusen are holding back Kai Havertz from moving to Chelsea.

Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft claims Bayer Leverkusen are stopping Chelsea from completing the transfer of Havertz because they fear it could hinder their efforts to sign a replacement.

Chelsea will pay the Bundesliga club £72million up front with a further £18m in add-ons and instalments.

But Bayer want to try and find a replacement for Havertz before sanctioning the deal.

"Seems like the main - reason for the delay of a public confirmation of the deal, is that Leverkusen would have liked to be further in replacing him," Fjortoft tweeted.

"It's strategy. After a big Havertz fee any replacement will be more expensive. That's the name of the game."
