Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen wants to return to Ajax this summer - though not to replace Daley Blind.

Off contract in June, Vertonghen is a confirmed target for Ajax coach Erik ten Hag, but the situation is complicated.

Dutch pundit Valentijn Driessen explained to De Telegraaf: "I have learned from a reliable source that Jan Vertonghen sees a return to Ajax, but not in the current circumstances.

"He doesn't want to compete with his great friend Daley Blind anyway. Certainly with the situation in which Blind hd with his heart, he didn't want it. He wants to avoid that anyway.

"He does not want to get into the situation that Ten Hag has to choose between Blind or Vertonghen.

"Blind is really no longer going to play left back at Ajax, and neither is Vertonghen. If Blind goes, then Vertonghen would be open to that. But he hinted that this was not the case."
