Man Utd have made ultimatum to Zidane - their alternative is Catalan

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez is a surprise target for Manchester United.

That's according to Ok Diario's football chief Eduardo Inda, when speaking on El Chiringuito. Inda reports Martinez is under consideration at United to replace Ole Gunner Solskjaer should first-choice Zinedine Zidane turn them down.

Zidane is a free agent after leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season. Martinez, meanwhile, is contracted as Belgium coach to the end of the season. Inda, who founded Ok Diario after leaving El Mundo, revealed United are seeking an answer from Zidane.

Quoted by Ok Diario, Inda said: "I already said last week that United want (Zinedine) Zidane, it is normal, he is the coach with the most Champions League titles in history together with (Carlo) Ancelotti.

"United told him in the national team break that they wanted to count on him and Zidane said he would think about it."

However, United are pushing Zidane for an early answer and has former Everton and Wigan Athletic manager Martinez lined up as their top alternative.

Inda continued: "United has given him an ultimatum and if he says 'yes' they will not go to plan B. That plan B is a Catalan coach who has spent part of his life in Belgium and the United Kingdom: his name is Bob Martínez..."

Solskjaer is under pressure after United's collapse at home to Liverpool on Sunday, though for the moment, he appears safe after taking training at Carrington this week.
