Man Utd approach Zidane - on Ronaldo recommendation

Zinedine Zidane has turned down an approach from Manchester United.

The former Real Madrid coach was sounded out last week by United intermediaries about replacing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That's according to Ok Diario's chief football pundit Eduardo Inda, when speaking on El Chiringuito. Inda is the founder of Ok Diario, having launched the outlet after leaving El Mundo. It is now among the most popular news outlets in Spain.

“Zidane can have the team he wants," said Inda, quoted by Ok Diario. "It is an option (United's approach) that has occurred in the national team stoppage.

“I already said that PSG had approached him, they have always wanted him. Newcastle also wanted him, but in the national team break he had a call from Manchester United to replace Solskjaer."

And Inda revealed it was Ronaldo who urged United chiefs to sound out Zidane. The Portugal striker played for Zidane at Real Madrid, where together they won everything there is in the game. However, even the presence of Ronaldo couldn't turn Zidane's head.

Inda continued: "The person who would sponsor him and who has recommended him to the board is Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Zidane said no because his dream is to coach France and they (United) have offered him double what he earned at Real Madrid. He tells everyone that his big dream is to coach the French team, but I see it complicated because it would have to be after Qatar.

"At United he would be the highest paid coach along with (Diego) Simeone (of Atletico Madrid)."

United have stumbled under Solskjaer in recent weeks and now sit in sixth position on the Premier League table. They've managed just one point from the last nine available.
