Manchester City never made a serious move for Leo Messi when it became clear he was leaving Barcelona last month.

Messi left Barca after being told his contract wouldn't be renewed, eventually agreeing a deal with PSG.

And his biographer, Guillem Balague, insists City were never in for the Argentine at the time.

He told Le Parisen: "City took the temperature until last March but quickly realised that the Argentinian had decided to stay in Catalonia.

"And when Barça let him go at the beginning of August, City had changed their objective and left the field open to Paris, an obvious point of fall thanks to its squad and its coach."
