Arsenal can recall Guendouzi from Marseille via special clause

Arsenal have the option to recall Matteo Guendouzi from Olympique Marseille.

The midfielder is on a season-long loan at OM, which includes a €10m permanent option that will be triggered should Marseille avoid relegation this season.

However, local journalist Romain Canuti told Le Phoceen's podcast via Le 10 Sport: "There is a clause that allows Arsenal to get him back just in case.

"And (manager Mikel) Arteta made a statement not so long ago saying 'We'll see for Guendouzi, we'll make a point later'."

Canuti was referring to comments made by Arteta last week ahead of Friday night's victory over Aston Villa where the Arsenal manager refused to shut the door on Guendouzi's return. However, Canuti concedes a lot of communication will be needed between the pair if the Frenchman is to return given their history.

He continued: "To see because there is this clause, all the clubs do this. But many other parameters come into play because Arteta and him are not the great love and they have to show if they are going to put someone on (Albert) Lonkonga's legs."

Midfielder Guendouzi has so far played all of Marseille's opening ten games of the Ligue 1 season, scoring three times and producing two assists.

His form has led Guendouzi to making the last two France World Cup qualifying squads of coach Didier Deschamps.

With Arsenal, the 22 year-old Guendouzi has a contract to 2023.
