Manchester United may hand Nemanja Matic a new deal to help avert an injury crisis.
The Serbian, 31, has just six months remaining on his contract and is free to discuss terms with other teams in January.
The Sun says United have told Matic's representatives that they intend to trigger his 12-month extension.
Despite playing only six times in the Premier League this season, Matic remains one of their few solid and dependable options available in the centre of the pitch.
It would also mean they might be able to recoup a fee for the former Chelsea man in the summer if they then want to sell.
