Ajax boss Frank de Boer looks like he will be able to hold onto goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen amid interest from Manchester United.

The former Dutch international is now hopeful he can retain the 26-year-old after he suffered an injury in pre-season, which is likely to curtail United's pursuit.

De Boer said: "We'll have to wait until after the training on Tuesday night, then we will see if he is able to play."

When asked if the injury was staged to avoid a possible transfer, De Boer added: "No, he really has a calf injury. Luckily, I would say, in this case."
