Iniesta upset with Barcelona over Valverde treatment: Ugly, unpleasant

Former Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta is disappointed with the way Ernesto Valverde is being treated.

While still in charge, Valverde has seen Barca directors meet with Al Sadd coach Xavi about replacing him this week. For the moment, word is Xavi has turned down the approach.

Asked about the situation, departing Vissel Kobe star Iniesta stated: "What comes to my mind a little, if all this is so, is that the ways or how everything is being done is a bit ugly. I think that respect for the coach you have, it should always exist. In the end, it is the rumours that can hurt the most. The situation of the mister is very weakened."

Asked about his relationship with president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the Barça board, he continued: "We have not seen each other and I have not talked to them. We really do not talk much, but the relationship is good with the president as when he was here.

"The relationship with the coach (Valverde) is very good. During the year we have been talking. Really beyond whether we like the coach or not, I think the situation is not pleasant for anyone: coach, team and fans."
