Ings knocking on the Liverpool door after U23 double

Danny Ings has further staked his claim for a place in the Liverpool squad after scoring a double for the club's Under-23's.

Michael Beale's U23 side claimed a 3-0 victory over Sunderland on Sunday and Ings was one of the stars for the Reds with a confidence-boosting brace.

Ings is currently looking to earn a place in the Liverpool squad following his return from a long-term injury and the recent performance for the reserves team certainly would not have done any harm to his chances of impressing manager Jurgen Klopp.

There is plenty of competition, however, as the Reds have already scored 24 goals in eight matches in all competitions this season with Philippe Coutinho leading the way on four goals, ahead of Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, James Milner and Roberto Firmino all on three.
