Impressive Elliot gets chance to shine for Newcastle

Rob Elliot will again be thrown into the Premier League cauldron this weekend.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper will make his first league start of the season for Newcastle United when they host Norwich City at St James' Park on Sunday.

Elliot joined the Magpies from Charlton Athletic back in 2011 but has made less than 30 appearances in all competitions for the north east club, however, manager Steve McClaren has faith that he can step into the void left by the injured Tim Krul.

"I've been impressed by Rob from day one when I came into the Club," he told nufc.co.uk.

"He's very vocal in the dressing room, is a senior player with good experience and is not afraid to say things.

"That is vital, and this situation gives Rob an opportunity to show what he can do."
