Important for Man Utd to at least gain a point in Russia - Schneiderlin

Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has highlighted the importance of securing at least a point from their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow.

The Red Devils fell behind at Arena Khimki when Seydou Doumbia fired home after David De Gea had saved Roman Eremenko's penalty in the 15th minute but Anthony Martial, who had conceded the spot-kick, headed home Antonio Valencia's cross with 25 minutes remaining to force the result.

Although United could have come away with a win having had 79% of possession, Schneiderlin felt it was just as vital to at least gain something from the trip to the Russian capital in a competition he describes as a 'marathon'.

"It's a bit of mixed feelings. With the game we wanted to take the three points but in the Champions League it is a marathon, not just about one game," he said on BT Sport.

"It is difficult because we wanted to come here to win, but the most important thing was to not leave here without any points."

"I think in the first half we had the better possession of the ball. We had good possession, but we could not create many chances. In the second half the movement was a little bit better, but maybe Moscow were a bit more tired.

"We kept the ball, and we made them move a lot which meant we had more chances in the second half. We could have played a bit more direct sometimes, but we know that we can improve because we need to create a bit more."
