I will leave penalty discussions to the players - Southampton boss Puel

Southampton boss Claude Puel is happy to leave the penalty-taking discussions to his players.

Striker Charlie Austin won a penalty in the Europa League tie against Sparta Prague on Thursday night and argued with Dusan Tadic over the taking of the spot-kick.

Eventually, the 27-year-old striker took the penalty and scored his first goal since January before adding a second as the Saints beat the Czech side 3-0 at St Mary's.

"We can say it's an anecdote," said Puel.

"I'm not sure what the players must do but the most important is to put the ball in the goal and this was important for the team.

"I can say I am happy to have a penalty for us because three penalties against us in the first four in the Premier League was very hard for my players.

"They can discuss together; if all the time you put the ball in the goal it's okay. For me it's not important."
