I told Leicester players: ‘We can do something special’ - Ranieri

Claudio Ranieri has revealed that he was confident of a successful season when he took the reins at Leicester City.

The Italian replaced Nigel Pearson in July last year and after his appointment was met with some disbelief from certain corners of the football community, Ranieri delivered the goods in the form of a Premier League title.

The 64-year-old has admitted he believed something special could be achieved with the Foxes when he first took over but concedes that what the East Midlands club did eventually accomplish is something simply amazing.

"At the beginning of the season I told them, you are so good you don't know. Believe me, we can do something special this year," he told PremierLeague.com.

"But was something I believe in all of my career to win a title, and to win a title here with Leicester in the Premier League, for me is the best, and I want to say one of the best leagues in the world. It's amazing.

"When I saw (Jamie) Vardy, when I saw (Riyad) Mahrez I said they can do something special and I change a little bit the position, and I gave to everybody a lot of confidence, because I believe in them. When I have a team and there is a very good relationship, a very good feeling, I give all my heart to help them.

"I believe, I always believe. I believe and I fight to achieve, now it's happened is ok. I continue to believe in something more, every time, every time - I am ambition, and now I'm young because I start now to win!

"Of course it was amazing when the ceremony at the beginning of the match, with Andrea Bocelli, was terrific, terrific, big emotion.

"Now all the world knows where is Leicester, and then I understand now it's the biggest achievement in the sport this year.

"A lot of people are happy, it's fantastic to see how many fans are crying because for the first time, they've watched their squad win the Premier League - and it's amazing."
