Pep Guardiola deployed Ilkay Gundogan in a playmaking number eight role in the German's Manchester City debut.
Gundogan, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, impressed in the absence of David Silva as Guardiola's side kicked off their Champions League campaign with a commanding 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
Of his midfield role, Gundogan said: "I think it is my position.
"I can also play a more defensive role, but this is our formation at the moment, with Fernandinho as number six and David and Kevin (De Bruyne) as eight and ten.
"David was out and I played there against Gladbach – it's a quite good position."
