Hull withdrew Bullard to avoid Galway tackling - Brown

Hull City boss Phil Brown insists there was nothing untoward in Jimmy Bullard not appearing in yesterday's friendly win over Galway United.

The 31-year-old midfielder had been pencilled in for a second comeback game of the week only to be withdrawn from the travelling squad at the 11th hour.

"We know that one or two of their lads would have a point to prove and maybe looking for a scalp so we were a bit concerned about Jimmy playing," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.

"It's purely precautionary. We're that close you've got to assess the situation as a manager and wrap him in cotton wool when you think it's right.

"We'll have a look at him again in a behind closed doors game at Doncaster on Tuesday where we can control the environment a bit more."
