Hull City failed with a bid for Everton midfielder Tom Cleverley last week.

The People says Hull made a deadline-day enquiry for Cleverley but were rebuffed by Everton.

Mike Phelan knows the midfielder well from their days together at Old Trafford and was interested in taking Cleverley but Goodison Park chief Ronald Koeman said 'no' to the move.

The Tigers may try again in January.
