Hull boss Bruce lauds inspirational skipper Davies

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has heaped praise on his captain Curtis Davies following Sunday's FA Cup semi-final thriller with Sheffield United.

The Tigers trailed 2-1 at half-time before overcoming the League One side to win 5-3 and book a spot in the final where they will meet Arsenal at Wembley on May 17.

After the match, Bruce spoke highly of centre-back Davies who rallied the troops during the break which inspired them to a famous victory at English footballs headquarters in London.

"I didn't say much at half-time," Bruce said. "My captain did it all.

"It's a long time since I've been in a dressing room where the captain takes over. It used to happen a lot in my day.

"I just had a cup of tea and let him get on with it. He is a bit of a dying breed with the way football is nowadays."

Jose Baxter opened the scoring for Sheffield in the 19th minute before Yannick Sagbo levelled in the 42nd minute, moments prior to Steven Scougall's effort on the stroke of half-time.

Matty Fryatt then edged Hull level five minutes into the second half before goals from Tom Huddlestone and Stephen Quinn fired the Tigers to a 4-2 lead.

Jamie Murphy then got the Blades within a goal in the 90th minute before David Meyler rounded up Hull's dramatic win in injury-time.
