Hull City boss Phil Brown says he did all he could to convince Fulham striker Bobby Zamora about moving to the KC.
He said: "You do your business and hope that it falls right.
"The meeting with Bobby was positive and the communication with Fulham was positive. I can't do any more.
"You're in limbo and no man's land as a manager."
