Hull boss Brown rubbishes Ashbee retirement rumours

Hull City boss Phil Brown has rubbished claims Ian Ashbee will be forced to retire due to his knee injury.

The midfielder is also battling a degenerative bone condition and fears are growing that he might have to hang up his boots.

But Brown has revealed Ashbee has just returned from a second visit to see Dr Richard Steadman in Colorado and believes he might even come back before the end of the season.

Brown said: "The good news is he doesn't need a further operation. The operation that he did have was born out of a lack of growth in the bone of his femur.

"It looks like it's a positive outcome from the last operation, so now it's rehabilitation and he'll play when he's ready.

"You know what I'm like, I'm an optimist. But I think Ash will play again before the end of the season."
