Hughton supports Newcastle takeover and Howe appointment

Former Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton supports the club's takeover and the appointment of manager Eddie Howe.

Hughton has backed Howe to succeed in the role and insisted he would have no qualms about working for the club's new owners.

"If the Premier League have allowed this takeover to happen and we have to follow their guidelines," Hughton told sundayworld.com.

"If you ask me whether I would take the job under these owners, of course I would. We don't decide who can run a football club and if the Premier League have sanctioned this, then you go with that.

"Eddie has spoken very well since he took the job and from a football perspective, it is a very exciting prospect.

"What we have to say about the immediate position is there are in a relegation battle and if the backers they now have running the club are to be successful, the first task they have to accomplish is staying in the Premier League. If they do go down, all their plans will be put on the backburner for a couple of years.

"When you look at the teams towards the bottom of that division, you could make a case for all of them to stay up, so it is going to be a real battle for Newcastle."
