Chris Hughton is almost certain to sign a contract with Newcastle United that will make him the manager.
Currently, Hughton is caretaker coach of the St James' Park club but he expects to become the full-time boss once contract discussions have been completed.
Owner Mike Ashley's decision to remain in charge and not sell the club just yet has seen Hughton receive an offer to keep him on permanently.
"I've had an offer and we're just in discussions at the moment. I'd hope it will be sorted soon," Hughton said.
"What is fact is they want me to be the manager and I want to be the manager. The good thing is they want me to sign and I want to sign. I will get the chance hopefully to take this team back into the Premier League.
"When someone's on a contract they're normally in a stronger position than when they're not. I'm talking to Mike [Ashley] and I'm hoping to sign it very, very soon."
