Alan Oliver wrote: "Chris Hughton will be handed the Newcastle United manager's job on a permanent basis. People Sport can reveal that this will be the main aftermath from the Kevin Keegan affair."

Oliver adds: "The decision to remove the caretaker tag from Hughton will delight the players after the way he has coaxed and cajoled them to the top of the Championship."
