Hughes pleased with Southampton young duo

Mark Hughes is very happy with a pair of young Southampton players.

He praised youngster Angus Gunn after he made his debut between the sticks in the 1-0 win away to Brighton.

And Hughes also praised the impact of young striker Sam Gallagher.

"(Angus Gunn) Gunny did really well. He didn't have a great deal to do in fairness but he had a number of shots low down which he dealt with really well," he said to the Daily Echo.

"I was pleased with his decision making in terms of releasing guys and in terms of distribution and his kicking was good, so he'll be pleased with his debut, I'm sure.

"Sam Gallagher. He's a young man with a lot of talent, power and pace. He's young, he doesn't quite know the game yet.

"Sometimes he'll make the wrong decisions and not do the right things but when you see the power and attributes he's got, you can see that he'll help us this year."
