Hughes: Motherwell move no step down

Stephen Hughes insists his move to Motherwell is no step back.

The former Rangers midfielder joined Well last week from Leicester City and said: "I know in myself I was not a failure at Leicester and I am from Motherwell, so it made sense to come back up the road.

"It was just a whole difficult situation down there. I was told to find another club. At first I wanted to work hard to fight my way back in but the way things were going it was clear I wasn't going to be involved. I knew the manager McGhee was interested and I think it will be a good move.

"I played every week but it is a funny game. A new manager comes in with different ideas and I was not a part of them. I could have gone to some other clubs in England but I had a good two and a half years down there and felt it was time to come home."
