Howe proud as Newcastle clinch Champions League qualification with Leicester draw

Eddie Howe was proud of his Newcastle players after securing Champions League qualification.

Monday night's 0-0 draw with Leicester City guarantees a top four finish for the Magpies.

Howe said: "We'll think about next season during the summer. We don't want to go far away from what we've done. We are realistic to know there will be more games and that's a challenge.

"I'm just trying to flick quickly through my career. This is the most recognised around the country just because of the scale of it.

"I think my first challenge in management trying to keep Bournemouth in the league and in existence was incredibly huge to me and the club.

"This is on a totally different scale media-wise. I'm just grateful to have the opportunity to manage here. We've had great success and that's satisfying."

On Newcastle fans, he added: "I think if you're not united with the fan base, regardless of how you play and performances, I don't think it's going to work. The first thing was to show how important it was that we represented the city in the right way, and that's through sheer hard work and determination.

"The supporters, even in the dark days during the first few weeks, have stuck with us. They've galvanised the squad this year without a doubt.

"Whenever you achieve something you're not just happy to participate. You want to succeed and want success. I want success massively for this football club. We'll enjoy tonight, but we want to bring silverware here if we can in the future."
