Reports suggest that Gerard Houllier will be appointed as the new Aston Villa manager on Wednesday.
The former Liverpool boss is expected to sign a three-year deal to come in as replacement for Martin O'Neill who quit on the eve of the season.
Caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald was keen on the job but will reportedly stay on as Houllier's number two after Phil Thomson rejected the offer to work with the Frenchman.
Houllier, who is currently a technical director with the French Football Association, will meet with French FA president Fernando Duchaussoy to inform of his decision to take the Villa job before the signing is made official.
