Houllier link with Birmingham denied

Birmingham City have not lined up Gerard Houllier to replace Alex McLeish as manager, the club insisted. And there would be no 'advisory' role for the ex-Liverpool boss, as has also been touted.

It was reported that Houllier would be invited to take a 'senior advisory' role with a view to ousting McLeish in the long-term.

"I have not heard anything like that," Sammy Yu told the Birmingham Mail. "He is a very respectable coach, but we have had no contact with him at all.

"He won't be coming in, now or in the foreseeable future either. Anyway, Sammy Yu is giving Alex much help!"
