Houllier insists Man City boss Guardiola wants to win 'above all else'

Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier insists Pep Guardiola will always put winning ahead of style.

The Manchester City manager remains on course to win the Quadruple in his third season in English football.

And the Frenchman said: “The obsession of a coach is to win. Don't believe otherwise.

"The obsession of Pep Guardiola is above all to win. He will never renounce his principles, of course, and he will never try to win by any means.

“But the goal is always the same every game – victory and efficiency above everything else.

"At the start of January, when he decided to go long to get out of Liverpool's pressing, he did it because it was the best response to the problem.

"Today, he is someone who ticks all the boxes and best embodies the role of a great coach."
