Holland defender Blind backs Man Utd colleague Rooney to fix England doubts

Daley Blind believes Wayne Rooney can force his way back into the England starting XI.

The Manchester United has been sidelined with a knee injury since mid-February which has seen him fall out of contention for a place in the Three Lions line-up for Euro2016 according to some pundits.

However, Red Devils teammate Blind is confident the club and national team captain can only benefit the England side if selected ahead of Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy.

"I think if a player like Wayne Rooney is fit, he is a very special player, and he can make any team in the world better," Holland international Blind said of Tuesday's friendly between the two teams at Wembley.

"When he is fit you'll definitely need him and he'll bring something very special to the team.

"He has some exceptional qualities, and I think his place in the England team shouldn't be in question."
