Hoeness convinced Bayern Munich will keep hold of Barcelona target Lewandowski; has message for Zahavi

Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness is convinced they'll keep hold of Robert Lewandowski.

The Poland striker is fighting to join Barcelona this summer.

But Hoeness, a former player and former president of the Bavarian club, told Sport1 that they will be counting on Lewandowski.

"The new team is being worked on intensively. If everything that was presented to me last week works out, we will have an attractive team next year with Lewandowski," Hoeness said.

In the same vein, he sent a message to Barcelona and the player's agent, Pini Zahavi.

"Things didn't go exactly the way he and his agent wanted," Hoeness said.

"That's why they are angry. I would advise everyone involved to be objective and not let the situation escalate.

"The sun will shine on Lewandowski and Bayern again. It has always been like that."

Lewandowski is out of contract with Bayern next year and this could be the last chance for the club to cash in on him, that said, Hoeness is in favour of keeping the Pole.

"If you don't have an alternative that you think can replace him to a certain extent, which seems difficult at the moment," Hoeness said.

"I would recommend that they keep him for one more year. After that we'll see if he leaves for free or renews."
