England coach Roy Hodgson is set to overlook new Toronto FC signing Jermain Defoe for his World Cup squad.
The Sunday Mirror says Defoe is facing World Cup heartbreak - as Hodgson has decided to select only four strikers in his final 23-man squad for Brazil.
Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck are all looking certain to make the plane to Rio.
And Southampton's Rickie Lambert is in pole position for the fourth striker spot. So, Defoe, who made the controversial decision to move from Tottenham to Major League Soccer side Toronto FC, is now looking almost certain to miss the cut.
