Hoddle insists the 42-year-old would benefit from being a manager in his own right in the Football League rather than being plunged in at the deep end.
Hoddle started out as player-boss at Swindon before moving up to Chelsea and then taking charge of the Three Lions.
He told the Mail on Sunday: "I feel it is invaluable to start down the pyramid and learn from your mistakes. Nothing prepares you for management; not being an assistant, a coach, or TV pundit. Only doing the job teaches you how to do it."
