Hiddink explains holding back Chelsea signing Matt Miazga

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink says new signing Matt Miazga isn't ready for first team football.

Chelsea lost Kurt Zouma for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury last week, but Hiddink says Miazga must wait for his chance.

“The injury to Kurt means Miazga moves up and also I have a kid from the academy [Jake Clarke-Salter] who is now with us," said Hiddink.

“He is coming up from the academy, but also Matt who has been with us a few weeks already.

“In the first-team squad of 15 or 16 players, we can also make variations with Branislav Ivanovic, Abdul Baba Rahman and Cesar Azpilicueta... we have some options to choose.

“Miazga is okay. Physically, he's rather okay. But we'll see what will happen next week. It's too early to judge about that (whether he will be ready to play next week).

“He's a youngster, albeit one in the national team of the USA. He has to get used to our way of playing, which is faster, but he's a good guy, very professional.

“He was also meant to come here not to be tested, but to get used to our way of working and training at Chelsea so he can integrate more easily in the upcoming season."
