Hibernian sacks Calderwood

Colin Calderwood was last night sacked by Hibernian following a poor start to the Scottish Premier League season.

The axe has fallen on the 46-year old after disgruntled fans launched a protest outside Easter Road after Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Dunfermline Athletic.

Calderwood had won just 12 of 49 games since taking over in October 2010 and Hibs chairman Rod Petrie felt it the right time to act after the Edinburgh club fell into ninth position with their seventh defeat of the campaign.

"The board decided it was in our best interests to find a new manager to take Hibernian forward," said Petrie.

Early candidates for the job include current assistant Bill Brown, former Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies, ex-Hibs ace Michael O'Neill and Gary Bollan of Livingston.
