Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in the Germany U21 international.
However, The Journal says the 22-year-old forward was pictured at a "secret" meeting with Hertha Berlin's general manager Michael Preetz this week.
The German media is reporting he will choose between returning to the capital or staying with Hamburg after a successful season-long loan.
