HeroISL: All square between Chennaiyin and Kolkata as Luis Garcia and Elano share penalties

Chennaiyin FC and Atletico de Kolkata have played out a 1-1 draw in the top-of-the-table clash in the 2014 Indian Super League.

Top side Atletico extended their unbeaten run to six matches in the inaugural ISL competition after Luis Garcia's first-half penalty at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai was cancelled out by Chennaiyin ace Elano's injury-time conversion from the spot.

Both sides ended the match with ten men after Chennai goalkeeper Shilton Paul was sent off for bringing down Mohammed Rafi in the 32nd minute and Kolkata's Jofre was shown a second yellow early in the second half.

Shilton's sending off was the catalyst for Kolkata marquee man Luis Garcia's 35th-minute penalty with the former Barcelona and Liverpool winger firing beyond substitute keeper Gennaro Bracigliano from 12 yards.

It appeared as though Antonio Lopez Habas' side would extend their lead at the top of the ISL table to five points but Jofre's dismissal on 47 minutes gave Marco Materazzi's Chennai some hope in terms of no longer having a personnel disadvantage.

And it helped prove decisive in the dying stages when the home side were awarded a penalty of their own for a foul on Kingshuk Debnath which ex-Manchester City midfielder Elano buried for his fifth goal of the campaign to remain on top of the scoring charts.

The result has Atletico sitting on 12 points from six matches ahead of their November 7 meeting with fourth-placed Pune City FC while Chennai are in second, two points in arrears, but with a game in hand on their nearest rivals prior to their November 8 clash with NorthEast United FC who sit third.
