Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson felt they showed great character to see off Sunderland on Wednesday night.
The Reds survived a late fightback to defeat Sunderland 2-1.
"It was a very important victory," Henderson told Liverpoolfc.com. "We knew it was going to be a big victory if we got it and we knew Sunderland were coming to make it difficult, which they did.
"I thought we dominated the game first half. We had a lot of possession. In the second half, I think we started well, got the goal and we were probably a little bit too comfortable at times and we were maybe a little bit sloppy on the ball.
"But the togetherness is there, we all get on really well. We'll all fight for each other - I think you can see that on the pitch.
"We're very demanding of each other and we want to help each other out. So if we just keep doing that and keep working hard, then our ability will come through."
