Henderson delighted as Liverpool secure 'important' victory over RB Leizpig

Liverpool have snapped a wretched three-game losing streak by securing a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

The Reds now have a superb chance of reaching the last eight after scoring twice in the away leg, with the match being played in Budapest's Puskas Arena because of Covid-19 restrictions.

Alisson has endured a torrid few weeks in the Liverpool goal, but the Brazilian was excellent against Leipzig, pulling off a fantastic save to deny Christopher Nkunku one minute into the second-half.

Jurgen Klopp clearly instructed his players to hit more direct balls to expose Leipzig's inferior pace at the back, with Jordan Henderson in particular spraying balls everywhere in the first-half.

Mohamed Salah eventually broke the deadlock after 53 minutes when he latched onto a poor back pass from Marcel Sabitzer before finishing neatly past Peter Gulacsi.

Just five minutes later and Liverpool had their two away goals, this time through Sadio Mane, who broke through on goal after capitalising on another Leipzig mistake.

Substitute Hwang Hee-chan almost pulled one back for Leipzig with time running out, only for his shot to sail wide after pressure from Alisson.

"It was an important game, a tough game, but really happy overall," said skipper Henderson when speaking after the game.

"A good night and a good performance. From start to finish I thought we pressed really well, won the ball back, looked good going forward. A pleasing performance but it's only half the job done.

"It was good to be able to create chances, we kept probing and finally got our reward with the goals. We just wanted to keep fighting every time we play and tonight was a good step in the right direction for us."
