SC Heerenveen president Jelko van der Wiel insists they did not price Alfred Finnbogason out of a move to Fulham in January.
Finnbogason branded his Eredivisie club "amateurs" after claims they hiked up his asking price from €10 million to €12 million on deadline day.
But Van der Wiel told Omroep Friesland: "Fulham knew for weeks that they needed strengthening, and then they came to speak to us only at five minutes to twelve for the man that they want: Finnbogason.
"They did not want to meet our price. Then they bought the Greek (Kostas Mitroglou) for €15 million.
"If they wanted Finnbogason they would have paid our price. We did not play for high stakes."
