Heavy Swansea loss at Liverpool was 'self-inflicted' - Monk

Swansea City boss Garry Monk felt his side could only have themselves to blame after losing 4-1 at Liverpool on Monday night.

The Welsh club conceded two unfortunate goals which could have been avoided as they relinquished eighth spot on the table to the Reds who were served by an Adam Lallana brace.

Liverpool's second goal came when goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski's clearance deflected in off Lallana before Jonjo Shelvey's 69th-minute own-goal wrapped it up for the home side, prompting the following words from manager Monk.

"We made too many mistakes. We played okay and had more possession, created chances, but ultimately if you make that many mistakes in any game you're going to put yourself under pressure," he told Sky Sports.

"It's self-inflicted. At 2-1 (after Gylfi Sigurdsson replied) we were on the front foot, but that goal killed us a bit.

"There were too many mistakes to warrant anything from the game. We made chances ourselves but mistakes cost us."

Monk added: "Their first goal came a little bit against the run of play, we had had a good spell.

"In the second half we came out and the second goal was from a disappointing mistake. Ultimately mistakes cost us the match."
