Heart of Midlothian defender Ryan McGowan says he wants to turn his ever-improving club form into landing a call-up to the Australian national team.
The 22-year old has been a regular of the Australian U23 side in recent years but is now looking to continue his good recent form in the Scottish Premier League in a bid to catch the eye of Socceroos boss Holger Osieck and has made it clear he harbors no ambition to represent Scotland.
"My heart has always been with Australia. I was born and brought up there and it's only the fact my parents are from Glasgow that people have been talking about me having that option.""If I am on the radar that's great but most importantly I need to be playing regularly for my club to have any real chance of a call-up," he told the Edinburgh Evening News.
A Football Federation Australia spokesman added that McGowan is certainly on Osieck's shortlist at the moment.
"Holger will be scouting for Australian players and Ryan McGowan is on that list of players," the spokesman said.
