Hasenhuttl lauds Chelsea counterpart Tuchel over Werner management

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has lauded Thomas Tuchel for getting the best out of Chelsea striker Timo Werner.

Werner has looked revitalised playing as a number ten in Tuchel's 3-4-3 system, which differed from starting out on the wing in Frank Lampard's 4-3-3.

The German snapped a 14-game goalless streak by netting in the win over Newcastle United on Monday.

And Hasenhuttl, who managed Werner at RB Leipzig, thinks the system change has lead to Werner recapturing his form in front of goal.

"I think he is on a good way [to getting the best of Werner]," Hasenhuttl said ahead of facing Chelsea on Saturday.

"There's now more space and he (Werner) runs more in behind. That helps him show a little bit more what quality he has.

"I always said that he has the quality to perform well and score goals. There are still a lot of duels [for a starting spot] because there are good players at Chelsea, so he has to be better than the other ones.

"They have so many offensive players with qualities but I always see him as part of a successful team and I think Thomas, and especially Zsolt [Low] from Leipzig, know exactly how to handle Timo."
