Hareide delighted for Leicester keeper Schmeichel: Among world best

Former Denmark coach Age Hareide has declared Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel among the best in the world.

Hareide was delighted for Schmeichel after Saturday's FA Cup final triumph against Chelsea.

Schmeichel captained Leicester to a first ever FA Cup final triumph - and was impressive in the process as he kept a clean sheet against favourites Chelsea. The Foxes won 1-0 thanks to Youri Tielemans' long range effort.

For Hareide, Schmeichel's performance was key for the victory and he was delighted for his former Denmark No1.

Now in charge of Norwegian heavyweights Rosenborg, the veteran coach told VG: "He's a great keeper. He has the ability to keep it out when it really matters.

"He's a winner. He is focused and he is willing to do his job while whipping others. In addition, he is a nice boy off the field who is concerned with the right values."

Hareide says Schmeichel deserved his current success for the way he has worked over his career.

He added: "I have had him for four years and have seen what a job he has put in and the level he has. After today's performance, he is among the best goalkeepers in the world in my opinion."

The 34 year-old Schmeichel is coming up to ten years a Leicester City player, having joined from Leeds United in 2011. The Dane's current deal with the Foxes runs to 2023.
