Hammarby chief insists 'no surprise' Arsenal, AC Milan targeting Odilon Kossounou

Hammarby IF sporting director Jesper Jansson says there's no surprise over the transfer hype around Club Brugge defensive utility Odilon Kossounou.

Arsenal, Wolves and AC Milan are being linked with the 20 year-old Ivorian, who was sold by Hammarby to Club Brugge almost two years ago.

It's been suggested Arsenal have become involved on recommendation of former Gunners star Emmanuel Eboue, who has urged management to take a closer look at his fellow Ivorian.

Kossounou is a product of the successful ASEC Abidjan academy and was spotted by Hammarby IF officials when competing in the Gothia Cup youth competition. The defender joined Hammarby IF on a long-term deal shortly after his 18th birthday in January 2019. Just months later he was leaving Sweden to sign for Club Brugge.

And 18 months later Kossounou was winning a first cap with Ivory Coast against Belgium.

The buzz around the youngster is no surprise for Jansson, who has followed Kossounou's progress since allowing him to depart for Club Brugge.

Jansson told Fotbollskanalen via Fotboll Transfers: "No, I'm not surprised because I followed him when he was here. We have followed him down in Belgium and his progress in Club Brugge and have contact with them."

However, Jansson believes that more than €15m will be required to buy Odilon.

"I do not think it will be enough, but it is clear that as usual there are clauses written if he were to be sold on."
