Hamburg's Mancienne hoping to push for England selection

Michael Mancienne believes playing abroad should not ruin your chances of England selection.

The 25-year old former Chelsea defender has emerged as a key centre-back with German club Hamburg and hopes to impress England boss Roy Hodgson even though he is not under his nose in the Premier League.

"You have to be playing Europa League or Champions League [football] to really get recognition," he told the Daily Star.

"That's a key thing and what Hamburg is aiming for this year. But if you are playing well they should still be watching you.

"I don't think you should drop off the radar if you play abroad."

Mancienne added: "I'm really settled. I haven't thought about moving or coming back to England. I'm really enjoying my time here."
