Hamann: Klopp must know Liverpool rebuild will take years

Liverpool Champions League winner Didi Hamann believes manager Jurgen Klopp faces a huge rebuilding job this summer.

After chasing the quadruple last season, Liverpool have failed to compete at the same heights. As a result, holes have been picked in the Reds' squad, namely the defence and the midfield.

Hamann thinks it will take a "couple of years" to ring the changes required.

"Liverpool got to a stage where players wanted to come to them above all other clubs, which has not been the case for much of the last 20 years," the former Germany international said speaking to Best Gambling Sites.

"There was a reality that if a player wanted to win trophies and play in England, they would likely go somewhere else be that United, City or Chelsea. So I feel Liverpool had a window when they were very successful, when they were peaking two, three years ago, where players actually wanted to join Liverpool over any other club because they would feel something is building here and they'd come and win trophies.

"Players like Camavinga and Tchouaméni are the types of players that could have come to Liverpool if they had spent the money."

He added: "They've got an ageing team with players partly out of form. Whether they will come back to their top level, I do not know. It reminds me of the team when Klopp first came to the club when he said, we've got to turn from doubters to believers.

"It's a huge job either for this manager or for somebody else because I think you've got to change pretty much the whole team and that's something which takes a couple of years at least. I don't think there's a quick fix now this summer, I wouldn't know where to start."
