Hamann: Champions League failure will not cost Guardiola Man City job

Didi Hamann is confident that failing to qualify for the Champions League will not cost Pep Guardiola his job at Manchester City.

The Spaniard has City sitting just one point ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United prior to Thursday's derby at the Etihad Stadium but with a top-four finish now at risk, former midfielder Hamann says Guardiola should not be concerned.

"Guardiola won't be under pressure for his job if The Citizens fail to grab a Champions League spot," Hamann wrote on his Paddy Power blog.

"City have chased his signature for a long time now and they've obviously had plans built around him. They've had some disappointing results against the likes of Arsenal and Monaco, but even if they finish outside the top four I don't believe his position will be in danger.

"Manchester City will still be a big pull because they've got some outstanding talent and the financial resources to attract big stars.

"I wouldn't worry too much for them in the transfer market in the summer. Sorting out a goalkeeper and rebuilding his defence should be on Guardiola's mind heading into the off-season."
